You look like a jackass; Give that ball to a kid
Am I alone on this or does every single person that catches a foul ball and thrust it in the air look like an idiot?
It’s a baseball.
You can buy them for a lot cheaper than the price of a ticket and parking.
It’s a foul ball at that. Likely hit by a player on the team you don’t root for. Why are you so excited? Is it because you know you’re on TV? If that’s the reason you stick your arm in the air and jump around spilling half your 9 dollar beer, well you’re just as bad as those people who spend the whole game on the phone behind the plate waving around like one of those spastic air balloon human things that car dealerships put along the road, clearly not even aware there is a baseball game going on.
There is an exception to when catching a ball can (and should) completely rock your world.
You are a child.
When you were a kid just getting a candy bar made your entire day. Getting a ball touched by a professional baseball player? That will make a kid a fan for life.
What is a grown man or woman going to do with a foul ball hit by Chris Stewart? Show it off to his or her buddies? Embarrassing. A child though? That’s their object for show and tell for the rest of their young schooling lives.
So give that ball to a kid. Are we seriously so selfish that we’d rather hold on to a wrapped piece of cork instead of making a child happy? Do the right thing.
(The big exception: Homerun balls hit by the opposing team. That thing needs to be chucked back as far as possible. Preferably all the way back to the infield. Kids are small and have weak arms.)

I’ve had a rough week and so have the Giants / Everyone fracking calm down.
The Giants winning and losing doesn’t decide what mood I’m in, but it sure does play a part.
Like most fans, I watch/listen/follow just about every single game played in a season. That means for at least 162 days, over a third of the year (right? math….) I’m paying attention to a baseball game, so yes, it’s part of my life and I’m going to be effected by what happens in the game.
I’m not (too) crazy though. I don’t cry myself to sleep every night we lose and throw a party after each win, but I’ve finally noticed when I’m most emotionally effected. Sports, for me, seem to act as reinforcement for how I am already doing. That is to say, if I’m upset when we lose (or my adulthood idol has a season ending injury) I basically turn into an angst filled 13 year old girl and if I’m already upbeat when we win I feel like there’s so much right in the world I could explode and there would be little pieces of me splattered across the room.
I’ve read a few times from “professionals” saying serious sports fans having unhealthy addictions to sports, showing said addiction by letting them effect their moods. I think they’re wrong. If I instead of being a sports fan was much much more into politics, and was in a crappy mood, and a vote went against mine, damn straight I’d be even more upset at life. I think those professional psychiatrists, or what have you, are just jealous they can’t join in deep sports conversations at dinner parties.
That being said, Giants have lost four in a row, our most recent acquisitions haven’t been the superheroes we wished for, and all the fans calling into KNBR today seemed to be in a panic. Yeah, it sucks, BUT IT’S ONLY FOUR GAMES!
EVERYONE CALM YOUR TITS!
Every team goes on losing streaks, we’re in one. We’re going to be alright, there’s still a lot of baseball left, and if I’m not mistaken we were not even in first place this time last year.
We should be stoked we’re even in the position we’re in with all the injuries and slumps we’re been dealing with this year. Each episode of The Franchise has had to spend most of it’s time going over injuries.
Baseball, like life, it has its streaks of ups and downs. You can’t get too excited or too down on what’s happening in the short term. It’s a long ride guys, just have fun with it, enjoy it. We’re fans. Let the players stress out, we can help most by being supportive and positive (and of course spending money on the team so they get big big pay checks).
The Giants will win games again, and things will turn around for us when we’re down as well.
It could be worse, we could all be Barry Zito and have just been put on the DL for a fractured aura, or what ever made up problem we gave him.

An irrational hatred
Over the last season and a half of baseball the padres have gone from a team that I have mostly scoffed at to a team that I have a burning hatred for the majority of the players. As all Giants fans are aware of the San Diego Padres have owned the giants over the last year and a half and while doing it they seem to have a smug smile on their face.
Maybe it is because the Padres seem to win against us the way that we seem to beat all others with great pitching and timely hitting, (emphasis on timely) or maybe it is tqhe fact that they have players on their team like Matt Latos who addmitidly hates the Giants and criticized the team for doing what every major league team does which is add players during the season.
There was a momeqnt in last nights 5-3 loss in the 7th inning when Andres Torres single handedly got momentum for the Giants who were down two runs at the time. With the Panda at bat a ball from Padres reliever Chad Qualls got past the catcher Nick Hundley just enough that the aggressive Andres took the late break to home to try and score to bring the Giants within one run of the pesky padres. Hundley quickly gets the ball over to Qualls for a relatively unclose play at the plate. The end of the play resulted in watching Qualls flex is non-existent muscles and a smug smile on the catcher Hundleys face reminding Giants fans that when we play the Padres, there seems to be no magic inside. -SLG
We all already knew
Brian Wilson is crazy.
However, I don’t believe he’s the kind of crazy you see in the commercials and the interviews. That’s him having fun, letting off steam, and quite honestly, pulling in some extra money. It’s an act. He’s actually crazy on a whole other inner level. You have to be to be a closer, especially a closer that has a habit of letting runners on up one run, or giving up 2 runs when you’re up three, and then still getting the save.
Weez has not been great this season, and recently, not even good. He gives a crap about this game and this team though (which I’ve heard many a commentator question) so yeah, he finally lost it in the dugout. Besides it being entertaining to watch, was it the most professional mature thing to do? … no. But he’s never been too mature or professional about anything.
I liked seeing it because unlike all other times we seem him off the mound, that wasn’t an act. He’s. fucking. Pissed. I would expect nothing less of a World Series Champion closer.
He’ll be fine to. It’s baseball, this happens. He’ll probably go out to a bar in North Beach tonight, pick up some girl and anger bang her at his place. He’ll wake up early to put in an extra workout, come in to the 9th inning tomorrow and get a save.
He doesn’t need to go all Barry Zito and travel to another country to find himself or whatever. And he certainly won’t shave his beard because everyone says he should.
He might shave off his eye brows just for funsies though.

- Kruk: And you're right. You don't have to blow up the catcher. Are we being to sensitive to this?
- Kuip: I don't care.
- Kruk: I miss Buster Posey.

It’s a Timmy day :)
I always look forward to these, I mean I love all the boys but there is just something about him.
maybe it’s his dance moves,
his love for food,
his luscious locks,
his enthusiasm,
or just a combination of everything :)

I’m really proud..
Of Zito and Crawford today. Can i just pick those two as my two favorite players of the day? Because they really were. Watching Crawford gaining confidence is a plus- boy has a Golden Glove and if he can get that bat swinging and hitting more consistently, it’ll be even better. Zito, congratulations on the win today :) Overall.. i am amazed, astonished, and proud of my boys for a doubleheader sweep!
